Latest car guides

each month, we take a look at some of the best used cars on the market.

Here are some of the cars catching our eye for May.

May 24th 2019 info review

It's a new month, and you know what that means - five new, used car recommendations from us. If you're interested in the cheapest second hand cars, and value for money – we've got you covered.

Across their categories, the following used cars are the hot topic in second hand dealerships – all made easier to purchase through used car finance.

#1 - Nissan Juke

This month, we're kicking off with a firm favourite. The second hand Nissan Juke is a very popular car on our roads at the moment, and when you've got particular interests in style, value and affordability – it's a great option.

Its premium feel and differentiating body style makes it a stand-out choice despite its familiarity, and with several trim levels available: Visia, Acenta, N-connecta, Tekna and Nismo RS, there's quite an offering available, dependent on what you're after.

As an entry-level vehicle, the lowest trim offers 16 inch alloys, air conditioning, traction control and six airbags, while the step ups offer additions such as USB ports, Bluetooth connection, leather seats, sat-nav system and a rear-view camera.

With the average price for a used Nissan Juke priced between 7-9k, it's no wonder we're seeing a lot of them on the roads

#2 – Audi A1

If you're in the market for a first-class supermini, a used Audi A1 has been one of the best in the small premium car and hot hatch categories for a while now – known for being stylish, without being overly attention-seeking.

What you get with an Audi A1 is pretty surprising to most, too. Though you might be expecting a small interior, what you'll actually find is big car sophistication that could be mistaken for something much adept and higher priced.

Its high quality engine, boot and well thought-out comfort makes it one of the finer luxury small cars on offer, all for £8,000 on average for a Sportback version.

#3 – Vauxhall Astra

One of the front runners of the hatchback class for years, the Vauxhall Astra has never been one of those cars that steals the show, probably because the brand isn't always seen as a desirable alternative.

What it is, however, is an extremely recommended car by its owners and a consistent vehicle in terms of value, comfort and actually – it's not bad looking, either.

Compared to its nearest competitors: the Seat Leon, Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf, it offers a lot of driving pleasure, along with a very spacey boot, competing with a Golf that is much pricier in comparison.

On the majority of car buying sites, the used Vauxhall Astra will cost you around £8,000 on average.

#4 – Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid

If an alternative, greener car is what you're in the market for – or fancy taking a look at your first hybrid option, the used Hyundai Ioniq is becoming an option that most are taking a look at.

Whether you're looking for a plug-in hybrid, self-charging hybrid or a fully electric car – you can potentially have any of the three propulsion options, dependent on your budget.

No other second hand, green model offers as much variety, however the hybrid version of the Hyundai is a stand-out option for us. As it was launched earlier than the other versions, there's more on the market and they're cheaper, as a result.

You can find a used Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid for less than £16,000, making it a great alternative.

#5 – Audi TT

If something a little sportier is what you're after – the used Audi TT is a coupe that is no longer joked about as a 'hairdresser's car', but instead, taken seriously. Finally.

With a 2.0 TFSI engine and a slick, sporty exterior, the Audi gives a thrill-seeker exactly what they're after, at a fraction of the cost compared to some of its giant price-point competitors. 2016 models have an average price tag of £20,000, and offer a range of little extras as standard.

From climate control and xenon headlights, to Bluetooth and DAB radio – however satnavs don't come as standard in all models, making this a desired extra worth looking out for if you're in the market for something flashy.
